On May 11, 2011 a roundtable discussion “Bukovynian Dialogue – 2011” was held in the Blue Hall of the Chernivtsi National University. During the discussion the experts and politicians exchanged views about cultural factors that had a positive impact on the Bukovyna’s development as the European region, and discussed a wide range of Ukrainian-Romanian relations. The roundtable was organized by Chernivsti Regional State Administration, the Institute of Postgraduate Education of Chernivtsi oblast, Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University and Research Institute of European Integration and Regional Studies.
A lot of foreign visitors took an active part in discussion of the problems of our region. For example, the section head of foreign cultural policy of the Austria’s MFA Martin Aihtinher spoke on “Bukovyna – european region of meeting cultures”. Professor Anatoliy Kruglashov focused on the culture of Bukovynian dialogue, its history and potential of understanding. Professor of University of Suceava Stefan Purych debated on the possibilities and difficulties of the Ukrainian-Romanian cooperation. His colleague Professor Florin Pintesku touched the issues of economic cooperation within the region “Upper Prut”. On the myth of our region and attempts to find out its roots reported Dr. Kurt Sharr from University of Innsbruck. And Chernivtsi professor Volodymyr Fisanov spoke on the topic “Is it worth to overcome stereotypes: Bukovynian reality on the beginning of XXI century”.
After discussion all the roundtable participants attended the official reception organized by the Head of Chernivtsi Region State Administration Mychailo Papiev.
